The North American SNJ-4 Texan, also known as the Harvard or T-6 Texan, is a single-engine advanced trainer aircraft that was widely used by the United States Army Air Forces, United States Navy, Royal Air Force, and other air forces of the British Commonwealth during World War II and into the 1970s. Renowned for its robust design and handling characteristics, it played a crucial role in preparing pilots for combat. This particular aircraft, VH-NAG, was originally built for the US Navy in 1942 under Bu. No. 09837 and later served with the Paraguayan Air Force. After its military service, the aircraft was imported to the USA and then to Australia for restoration. It underwent a comprehensive ground-up restoration by Sandora Aviation P/L, completed in July 2009, bringing it to excellent flying condition. Unusually, it was restored as an SNJ-4C with a tailhook and a 3-blade propeller, powered by a Pratt & Whitney R1340-AN-1 engine. Currently based and registered in Australia, VH-NAG is frequently flown and maintains its authentic US Navy paint scheme, serving as a meticulously maintained warbird for airshows and private enjoyment. Its modifications include Redline Brakes, a Pre-Oiler, oil tank heater pads, and a smoke system. Built and accepted by US Navy July 1942. Served with the US Navy as Bu. No. 09837 at NAS Jacksonville, NAS Vero Beach, NAS Corpus Christie, NAS Daytona Beach and Struck off March 1946. Thereafter, served with the Paraguayan Air Force until retired. Purchased at auction in 1991 by a US Aircraft Dealer and shipped to California. Imported into Australia by Western Warbirds, then sold to its current owner in 1994. Restored to flying condition by Sandora Aviation P/L at Caboolture QLD, Australia and finished in its original USN scheme with first post restoration flight taking place in July 2009. 4,004.0 Hrs.
