About Globe - Globe GC-1B Swift

The 1946 Globe GC-1B Swift is a classic, post-war, all-metal two-seat aircraft celebrated for its sleek lines, retractable landing gear, and fighter-like styling. Designed for civilian aviators seeking military-inspired handling, it offers side-by-side seating and a distinctive low-wing configuration that makes it a true standout on any ramp. Equipped with a reliable Continental reciprocating engine, this vintage aircraft delivers an engaging cross-country cruising performance and responsive aerobatic feel. With its durable airframe and vibrant community of owners, the Globe GC-1B remains a prized collectible and a perennial favorite at vintage airshows and fly-ins. The Swift was designed in 1940. The 85 hp GC-1A Swift advertised as the “All Metal Swift” received its type certificate on 7 May1946. Two prototypes were built but essentially, the design remained the same as the type entered production. Globe built about 408GC-1As. Later that year, the Swift received a more powerful engine of 125 hp (93 kW), making it the GC-1B. Globe, together with TEMCO, built 1093 before shutting Swift production down permanently in1951.
